How can I create my Ikea kitchen plan without making any mistakes?
Before you draw anything, it helps to know what the Ikea planner does well and where it will trip you up. This is the route our designers take, step by step.
Start from the room, not the cabinets
Measure walls, then note where the water, gas and power arrive. Everything else in the plan is decided by those fixed points.
Draw the METOD run first
Lay the base cabinets, then the tall units. Leave the 8cm filler where the wall is out of square.
Check the worktop before you order
Our worktops are cut to your plan. Once the run is final, send us the plan and we will confirm the cut-outs for the sink and the hob.
Send us the plan, and we check the fronts
We check every front against the Metod list — doors, drawers, cover panels, plinths — and come back with the complete Plum Living project.
